Starting in the 1920s, principals of all North Carolina public schools sent annual reports to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. These reports are stored in the State Archives of North Carolina in Raleigh, and make fascinating reading. The archives are open to the public, and the staff is very helpful. They are well worth a visit. More information can be found at archives.ncdcr.gov
This page has links to portions of the West Charlotte High reports from 1938-1955. They include numbers of students, names of teachers and courses, descriptions of facilities and equipment, and other information.
While at the archives, I copied only those pages that seemed relevant to the project at the time. As a result none of the files contains a complete report.
