Starting in the 1920s, principals of all North Carolina public schools sent annual reports to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. These reports are stored in the State Archives of North Carolina in Raleigh, and make fascinating reading. The archives are open to the public, and the staff is very helpful. They are well worth a visit. More information can be found at archives.ncdcr.gov
